See this picture? It was music to our ears — our aching, vibrating ears. Sitting through a Battle of the Bands competition is now right up there on my Things I Hate to Do list (right after visiting a crowded amusement park). My eardrums, two days later, are still vibrating — and I was wearing some pretty dern good earplugs.
When Sam and Bren took the stage I pulled the squishy, blue foam plugs from my ears in anticipation of Sam’s first strum on the guitar. As he began to play, I could see the chatty teens stop talking and turn toward the sage, watching as Sam’s fingers expertly plucked out the melody of their first song. When Bren began singing harmony everyone was paying attention. They really do sound great together. The soothing music was such a contrast to the previous performances and I wasn’t sure how it would go over with the young crowd. It was a nice change of pace.
The kids performed an excellent set (Hubs and I were amazed by how good they sounded — especially the girl who has two parents that can’t sing a note!) and were awarded second place out of eight bands. They received a Baby Taylor acoustic guitar along with a gift pack that all participating bands received from local music stores. We are so happy for them.
